About Us
Maltbie Funeral Services has a long history of serving Springfield, Colorado, beginning in 1926 when Isaac and Grace Rich founded it as Rich Funeral Home. Over the years, the funeral home operated in several locations around Springfield, including the home of Bob and Helen Rich. In 1964, Bob Rich oversaw the construction of the current building at 265 W 8th Ave. The Rich family managed the funeral home until 1977.
In 1984, Neil and Judy Harman purchased the business and continued its legacy until August 2007, when they sold it to Ervin and Coral Maltbie. In May 2012, the funeral home was renamed Maltbie Funeral Services.
Ervin, known to many in the community as Erv, grew up in Springfield and graduated high school in 1963. After marrying Coral Cowan, the couple lived in Denver before returning to Springfield in 1972. Erv began his pastoral ministry in 1979 and also worked part-time at Rich Funeral Home until 1985.
In July 2022, ownership passed to Janelle and Chris Leonard, Erv’s daughter and son-in-law. Janelle, who has worked closely with Erv, continues to serve families with compassion and respect. She earned her funeral director certification through the Colorado Funeral Directors Association, and Erv remains available to assist when needed.
In August 2024, Janelle’s sister, Jolene Overhauser, joined the funeral home team. Along with helping
Janelle arrange services, Jolene also assists the community with pre-arrangement funding options.
Carrying forward the example set by their father, Ervin, the Maltbie family remains committed to providing every family they serve with care and dignity.
Maltbie Funeral Services, LLC is a proud member of both the Colorado Funeral Directors Association and the National Funeral Directors Association.
