About Us

Maltbie Funeral Services has a long and respected history of serving Springfield, Colorado, dating back to 1926 when Isaac and Grace Rich founded the business as Rich Funeral Home. Over the years, the funeral home operated from several locations throughout Springfield, including the home of Bob and Helen Rich. In 1964, Bob Rich oversaw the construction of the current facility at 265 W. 8th Avenue. The Rich family continued to manage the funeral home until 1977.

In 1984, Neil and Judy Harman purchased the funeral home and faithfully carried on its legacy of service to the community. They owned and operated the business until August 2007, when it was purchased by Ervin and Coral Maltbie. In May 2012, the funeral home was officially renamed Maltbie Funeral Services.

Ervin Maltbie, known to many as Erv, grew up in Springfield and graduated from Springfield High School in 1963. After marrying Coral Cowan, the couple lived in Denver before returning to Springfield in 1972. Erv began his pastoral ministry in 1979 and worked part-time at Rich Funeral Home until 1985, blending his calling to ministry with compassionate service to families.

In July 2022, ownership of Maltbie Funeral Services passed to Janelle and Chris Leonard, Erv’s daughter and son-in-law. Janelle, who worked closely alongside her father for many years, continues the family tradition of serving families with compassion, respect, and professionalism. Erv remains available to assist when needed.

In August 2024, Janelle’s sister, Jolene Overhauser, joined the funeral home team. In addition to assisting with funeral arrangements, Jolene helps individuals and families with pre-arrangement planning and funding options, as well as the selection and customization of headstones and memorial markers.

Guided by the example set by their father, the Maltbie family remains committed to honoring every life and serving every family with care and dignity.

Maltbie Funeral Services, LLC is a proud member of the Colorado Funeral Directors Association and the National Funeral Directors Association.
