A graveside service celebrating the life of Verda Turner was held Monday at Springfield Cemetery. She died Tuesday, June 2, at the age of 95 in the Walsh Healthcare Center.
Her long life began on Friday the 13th of January 1925 in Liberal, KS. Her parents, Lee and Blanche Tague, soon moved to Colorado. In her early life and later, she lived in Old Colorado City, Colorado Springs, Florence, Cripple Creek and other mountain towns but settled longest in Baca County. There, she met and married Harry Turner. They raised their three children in the Lycan community, Two Buttes, Walsh and Springfield. While she was raising children, she called herself a “domestic engineer,” and did most of her work at home, schools, church and on the farm. After her children were raised, she worked in medical records at the Walsh Hospital. She was a housemother at a home for troubled teens in Colorado Springs, and she volunteered at the Space Foundation.
She is survived by her sons Ron (Pat) of Two Buttes, and Don (Ruthie) of Wiley; her daughter Debra ( Dave McCoy) of Lancaster, OH, and sister Virginia Eskew of Colorado Springs.
She adored her six grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and four great-greats.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers Leon and Robert, sisters Vela and Wanda, two grandsons Dusty (Sherrilyn) of Springfield and Lance (Tressa) of Lycan and Walsh, and great-grandson Alec Suhler of Loveland.
Contributions in her memory may be made to the Walsh Healthcare Center, P.O. Box 206, Walsh, CO 81090
