Ted Ray Locke passed away peacefully Friday, January 8th, 2021 in Springfield, Colorado surrounded by loved ones

Ted was born in Springfield, Colorado in the house right behind Everitt Moore on January 20th, 1943, a day so cold that his parents Ted Floyd and Edith (Brown) Locke had horses pull the car just to start the engine. Growing up, Ted was known affectionately throughout Baca County as "Butch." Descended on both sides from homesteaders, Ted was a natural carpenter and builder. He put himself through architecture school at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas. While on a trip to see his parents in Loveland, Colorado, Ted met the love of his life Holli Hickman of Omaha, Nebraska. As she walked away from their first meeting, Holli heard a small voice, "you're going to marry that man." Ted and Holli married January 30th, 1966 and had two children, Amy and Matthew Locke.

After a short stint living in Boulder and working in Denver, Ted moved the family to Colorado Springs in 1973 and worked for the prominent local architect Carlisle Guy, then opened his own practice in 1977, from which he never retired. Ted designed his own innovative custom home and, with a small crew that included wife Holli, physically built it himself in 1977-78. Ted became one of Hilton's 12 nationally Preferred Architect's, designing over 100 hotels and holding licenses in multiple states. Throughout his career, Ted designed and built residential and commercial projects all over the country. Ted was also a general contractor, carpenter, and rancher. He served his communities throughout his life on several service committees and as a member of the Springfield, Colorado City Council.

A devout believer, Ted found the Lord in 1986 and was an avid and regular churchgoer, first at Woodmen Valley Chapel in Colorado Springs, and most recently at Springfield Baptist Chapel. His faith was the central feature of his life, and his love of the Lord was expressed among his last words.

Ted is survived by his wife Holli Locke; daughter Amy Locke; Amy's children Jack Krause, Kate (Krause) Ferrell and grandson-in-law Daniel Ferrell, Halie (Krause) Scranton and grandson-in-law Kadin Scranton, and Lily Krause; son Matt Locke; sisters Becky Long, Dena Mohr, and Abbey Mullis; and brother Steve Locke.

Ted loved to work, travel, worship God, and be with his family. He was a kind and generous man of integrity. He leaves his family missing him more than would be bearable without the Lord in our lives.
