Sherrill D. West was born December 17, 1933 in Walsh, Colorado to Chester Frank West and Carrie Grace (Woolley) West and joined his beloved wife, Eudora (Tucker) West on December 28, 2023.
Sherrill’s family lived in several different towns in Colorado and Kansas until he was 12 when his mother moved back to Walsh with her four children. Sherrill graduated from Walsh High School in 1952 and worked for a few different farmers growing up but learned how to farm from his Uncle Doyle Woolley who was his role model. Sherrill grew up in a house with his grandmother, mother, aunt and three sisters. So he spent a lot of time on Uncle Doyle’s farm for a little male bonding. He said that his mother moving the family back to Walsh was probably a blessing because of all the love and support they received from all their aunts and uncles.
Sherrill lived in Walsh, CO until he was drafted into the Navy, despite being blind in one eye, he was in boot camp in San Diego, California and then stationed at the naval base on Whidbey Island, Washington. After his discharge from the Navy he returned to Walsh and worked at the Walsh elevator for a few years. He then moved to Denver and went to an electronic trade school and worked at Norgrens in Englewood CO. Sherrill then moved to Loveland, CO in 1962 to work at Hewitt Packard where he was a production supervisor for thirteen years. While he lived in Loveland, he attended Aims Community College and received his Associate Degree in Business Administration.
In 1959, Sherrill met Eudora Tucker when she was home from college on summer break. Sherrill married Eudora May Tucker in 1962. To this union two children were born, Victoria and Mike. The family lived in Loveland, CO when they were first married and then moved to Lamar CO in 1975 where Sherrill managed Western Transportation Inc. After a three years the family moved to Springfield CO where Sherrill and Eudora bought and operated Princess Lanes bowling alley for many years.
Princess Lanes was the gathering place for young and old alike and the Princess burger and shakes were the best in town! After the bowling alley burned down, Sherrill opened the Radio Shack where he helped his son, Mike, run the local Viaero store until he retired in his 80’s. During this time, Sherrill was not only able to spend a lot of time with his son, Mike, but also with his grandkids and great grandkids!
