Robert (Bob) Lon McEndree was a loving, caring husband, Dad, Grandpa, Brother, Uncle and family member to all who knew him.
Bob was born to Gale and Alona (Ramey) McEndree on June 18, 1951, in Lamar, Colorado. His younger years were spent on the ranch. He attended Big Rock School, a one room schoolhouse until his family moved from the ranch to Springfield, CO. Bob loved to tell stories about years gone by. One of those stories was the time he and his two brothers, Bill and Burl, tied the goat to the wagon and put their little sister, Nyla in the wagon and let the goat go running to the creek. He thought that would be great fun for Nyla; however, his Mom didn’t see it that way.
When Bob was young, he made the most important decision of his life by accepting Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at a Friend’s church camp one summer.
Bob loved to rodeo. He loved to ride broncs and enjoyed the times his grandad would bring in the wild horses from the ranch and they would have buck outs to sell the horses for rodeo stock. His highlight was when he took first place at a rodeo in Kim, Colorado.
Bob loved sports, He played football, basketball, baseball and was a lifeguard at the local swimming pool. He even went to Lamar Community College on a baseball scholarship and gained the nickname of “Cowboy Bob” amongst the players. He loved his buddies he played sports with. This past summer he went to his 51 st Class reunion and there were a lot of “remember when” stories told by him and his buddies.
It was during his high school year that a certain young blonde caught his eye. He began dating Charmaine Patterson his Junior year and was teased to not squeeze the Charmin. They were then married on June 6, 1971. Two children were born to this union Charlon Ronelle and Jeremy Lee.
Bob went to work for the natural gas company that same year and worked that job for 45 years.
Bob was a dedicated a Father. One of the family highlights was he loved helping his kids with their 4-H animals, the steers and sheep. The pigs not so much. Charlon recalls a time they were working with the animals at the barn and Bob reached up in the rafters and pulled down a sack of Oreos. She asked him why he had them there, he said, “Well your mom always has me on some sort of diet, so this is my stash.”
Bob loved to bird hunt with his son, Jeremy. He took great pleasure in working with his German shorthair bird dogs, Camie and Coke.
Bob loved his kids but when his grandkids came along, they became his world. He became not only their grandpa, but their father figure. Brittney and Hunter recall having to have “Grandpa Talks” with him. Megan said she was so good she didn’t have to have “Grandpa Talks”.
Bob and Charmaine along with their kids developed a lasting friendship with Max and Tara Hardy and their family. Every summer they would load up the kids and the boat and head to the Ozarks. This eventually led to Bob and Charmaine joining Max and Tara to live in the Ozarks after they retired. Bob and Charmaine lived life to the fullest the four years they were there.
The simplest pleasures brought joy to Bob. He loved to work in his yard and garden. When living in Springfield, he designed and built a beautiful koi pond in his backyard. His yard in Missouri was also a masterpiece.
Bob departed this life on September 10, 2021, due to a sudden brain aneurysm. He was surrounded by his loved ones who will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest.
