Pauline Eveline Hill passed away on January 25, 2020, at Southeast Colorado Hospital at the age of 95 after a long and fulfilling life. She was born in a dugout in Kirkwell, CO on September 1, 1924. She was the oldest of seven children born to Roy and Ruby Peters Chapman.

Pauline was responsible for fixing breakfast and plaiting her sisters’ hair before she left for school. She rode a horse to school at Prairie Center through the 8 th grade. She graduated from Pritchett High School when she was 15 years old and went to work at Deeds General Store.

Pauline married William Robert “Bill” Hill on January 26, 1946, in Clayton, NM. They made their home in Pritchett where they were blessed with four children; Jerold Kenerson born on his dad’s birthday in November of 1946, Ronald William in 1948, Glenn Douglas in 1955, and finally a girl, Beverly Kim in 1957.

The family moved to Springfield in 1960. Pauline became the bookkeeper at the Pak-N-Sak grocery store later known as the Springfield IGA. She was employed there until the store burned. At that time, she decided to retire but Pauline was a doer so she never really stopped working. She was an active member of the VFW Post #4001 Ladies Auxiliary, the Pans and Needles Extension Homemakers Club, and the Order of Eastern Star. Pauline volunteered for years at LTCC for weekly Bingo. Upon her retirement, she began delivering meals for Meals on Wheels for a number of years.

After Bill’s death in 1984, Pauline became an active member of the Springfield Assembly of God. She enjoyed hosting visiting missionaries, sending cards to church members for birthdays and other occasions and serving as the Sunday school secretary. It was also at this time in her life that Pauline formed lasting friendships with her walking group “The Walkie-Talkies” – Hazel, JoAnn, and Cheryl.

Pauline chose to move to LTCC in 2017 after breaking her hip. She loved all of her children deeply, but she had a special bond with her son, Glenn. As she aged, she said, “We are a good pair. I can help him with the things he cannot do and he helps me with the things I cannot do.” Glenn visited her every day after her move to LTCC and they enjoyed playing Bingo together every week. Her daughter-in-law, Karen helped with so many things during this time as well.

Pauline is preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Ruby Chapman, husband Bill, son Jerry, sisters Myrtle Bowers and Margaret Stephens, and infant brother John Chapman. She is survived by children Ron (Karen) and Glenn of Springfield, Kim (Sean) Ward of Dallas, GA, sisters Alice Williams of Farmington, NM, Stella Sleater of Aurora, CO, and brother Harold Chapman of Thornton, CO, daughter-in-law Nancy Hill and three grandchildren, William John, Ronald James, and Patrick Joseph all of Warrensburg, MO, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
