Marjorie Allene Dunlap was born April 10, 1927, to Cecil B. Brite, (better known as “Fish”) and Neita Pauline (Paul) Brite, two miles Northwest of Keys, Oklahoma. She departed this life on July 21, 2017, in Springfield, Colorado, at the age of 90. Marjorie wrote the following words pertaining to her life: “When I was around four, we moved across the Cimarron River into Colorado. My first school was at Hi Point. We and the neighbor kids had lots of fun walking to school together. Our specialty was jumping soap weeds! In the early 30's, we moved a few miles southeast of Mt. Carmel, where we walked 1 ½ miles to the Murray School. In the latter 30's we moved to the southeast a few miles where I attended the Mitchell School. I then attended high school for two years at Elkhart, Kansas, and lived in the home of the doctor who brought me into this world. I went my last two years of high school in Springfield and graduated in 1944. I married Jack Thompson in 1952, and to this union, one son was born: Echo Drew. Then, on September 21, 1962, I married Ray (Doc) Dunlap, who later adopted Drew. I love nature. To hear the doves coo and the lonely call of the coyotes. To hear the birds sing and see the wild animals. My favorite things are to decorate and make a garden. To plant small seeds and watch what they grow in to, is so miraculous! The Lord became real to me in the early 1960's.” Marjorie was a true and loyal faithful servant to the Lord. She took every possible opportunity to witness to those around her. And scriptures?? Well, she could quote Bible Scriptures like nobody's business! Marjorie found great joy in decorating her home. She had special decorations for each and every season and holiday. While decorating, you could find her singing her favorite hymns and quoting her beloved scriptures. Her garden was another great source of joy. She spent countless hours tending to her garden and enjoyed sharing the fruits of her labor with family and friends. Some of you may have witnessed her chasing away grasshoppers with Scriptures...AND, her famous walking stick! Marjorie also enjoyed her deer. She would sit in her yard and watch them jump the fence to come in for a snack, and drink from the birdbath. She became quite attached to “Lilly”, who has been bringing her fawns to visit for years. We can't forget to mention the Ranger. Marjorie loved going for early evening rides with Drew and getting out in nature. Since his passing, she has been known to hop on the Ranger and drive all the way to the mailbox....she also had a few wild escapades on the Ranger with her dear friend, Ella McCash. Last but not least, Marjorie had a gift for writing poetry. In 1982 she wrote one poem a day for a full year, which became her book titled, “Golden Manna”. She continued writing poetry, and always had pen and paper handy when the words came to her. While Marjorie spent the majority of her time on the ranch, she loved her trips into Springfield. She never came to town without being “dressed to nines”, and in her own words, looking “sparkly”. She delighted in her sparkly necklaces and matching earrings...AND, her bright red lipstick! Yes, she was a special lady, and will be dearly missed...but she will live on in our memories forever. She is survived by two sisters, Myrna (Gary) Shelton of Elizabeth, Colorado, Dorothy Porter of Springfield, Sister-in-law Lois Brite of Campo, CO and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Preceding her in death: parents-Cecil and Neita Brite, brothers Paul Brite, Leslie (Tunie) Brite, and Hugh (Shine) Brite, husband- Ray Dunlap, and son-Echo Drew Dunlap.
