Maelin Andi Lasley was born June 6, 2005, she was the only child of Jeremy Lasley and the late Brenda Lasley.  Maelin was welcomed home by half siblings Cole and Morgan Babbitt, Maelin soon became the master of the household, using the youngest child charm to wrap the other family members around her finger. The divorce of her parents in 2009 expanded her family to include stepfather Chad Jones, and step siblings Chase, Patrick, and Jessica Jones. During this time Cole married Hunter, adding a sister-in-law to Maelin’s family.  Maelin considered family a blessing and celebrated each new addition. Her fun and witty personality brought joy to all her family.

The death of Brenda Lasley in 2016 brought another family change for Maelin – it was now just she and her Dad.  Maelin soon became Jeremy’s whole world, and they shared many great experiences. They would jug line for fish, Maelin has downed several species of wild game, they took many trips to the lake to boat, tube, ski, knee board or wake board, and they traveled to a number of amusement parks, (Jeremy was relieved when some cousins could ride with Maelin so he wouldn’t have to). Maelin could suggest an activity and Jeremy jumped into action to make it happen.

Maelin made many great friends participating in Volleyball, Cheerleading, Basketball, and Track in both recreation sports and school athletics.  She and her teammates contributed greatly to the Springfield Junior High School trophy case.  In addition to athletics, Maelin was active in pageants. She was the Melon Miss Princess in 2012 and the Melon Miss Queen in 2014. In 2015 she won Pre-Teen Miss Candy Cane in Lamar and added the title of Miss Pueblo County Southeast Colorado in 2016.

Maelin was a member of the Springfield class of 2024 – she considered all classmates her friends.  She and her friends had dreams of a senior trip to Paris.  Her bedroom could be considered an homage to the Eifel Tower. In 2019, she and her friends pursued a trip to VidCon and had even priced plane tickets without their parent’s knowledge. In Maelin’s circle she is well known for the renegade dance.  Maelin was a defender of the less fortunate or less popular, and a friendly face for those needing one.

Maelin left this life too soon on September 25, 2020.  She was preceded in death by paternal grandmother Marylin Lasley, and her mother Brenda Lasley. She is survived by her Father Jeremy Lasley; Half siblings Cole (Hunter) Babbitt and Morgan Babbitt; Grandparents Loyd Lasley, Dale and Debbie Mitchener; Aunts and Uncles Jimmy Mitchener, Julie and Rod Robins, and Kyle and Sharla Lasley; Niece and Nephew Claydon and  Remi Babbitt; and cousins Kinzie, Kelby, Kylan (Spell), and Rustin Robins; Tatelyn and Hayden Lasley; and the Springfield High School Class of 2024.

The loss of Maelin has left a void in the hearts of those she has touched. That void can only be filled with the fun memories that remain of Maelin in each of us.
