Loyd Veral Lasley passed away November 17, 2024 at the Springfield Long Term Care Center with his family by his side. Loyd was born June 11, 1944, he was the eighteenth of 20 children born to Floyd and Mildred Lasley. Loyd attended school at Crescent, a one room schoolhouse, to the 8th grade; then attended and graduated from Springfield High School in 1962. On January 3, 1965 Loyd married Marylin (Hansen) Lasley or “Babe”’ as he called her, and moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma. They raised 3 children: Julie, Jeremy, and Kyle. While in Stillwater, Loyd worked at the Gold Spot Dairy, and Moore Business Forms. In January 1977 Loyd and Marylin moved back to Springfield to return to farming. In 1984 Loyd sold the Family farm and began his final career as a car salesman; first at Key Chevrolet, then at Hill Top Sales, and finally for Stagner Incorporated. Loyd loved baseball! He didn’t watch it on television, but rather loved being at a ball field – involved in the action. He coached youth girls softball, little league baseball, he umpired men’s softball, and coached Loyd’s Girls – the scourge of any woman’s softballer not on the team. They had an impressive record, won a few league championships, and were infuriating to their opponents with a laid-back approach to kicking butt. Loyd loved coaching those ladies. Loyd retired in 2008 and devoted most of his time to his grandkids by taking them camping, fishing, and attending their school events. He loved visiting with friends and family in the shade of his driveway while sharing the harvest from his garden. Late summer brought fresh watermelon, and he treated many friends to the delight of eating watermelon to the rind, he would provide all the salt you wanted. If he didn’t have fresh fruits or vegetables, there was a good chance the garage freezer was loaded with popsicles – he and Babe had to make certain his house was a pitstop for his grandkids during their summer bike rides. Loyd was preceded in death by his parents; siblings Ellen, Greta, Veta, Vera, Floyd, Mary, Fred, Dale, Nina, Jacob, Frank, Joe, Joyce, Betty, and Tom; his wife Marylin; and his granddaughter Maelin Lasley. Loyd is survived by his siblings Gale, Ted, Glen, and Robert; children Julie and Rodney Robins of Springfield, Jeremy Lasley of Springfield, Kyle and Sharla Lasley of Lamar. Six grandchildren and 10 Great Grandchildren. Loyd loved life, he loved chatting with people, catching up with friends, and he absolutely adored his Babe. He welcomed the end of this life anticipating a reunion with her.
