Loyd Grant Haney, age 94, died January 14, 2017, following a brief illness in Denver, CO. Born September 12, 1922, he was the son of the late Harvey Lewis and Elsie Lorene (Andrews) Haney. Loyd grew up just west of the Baca/Las Animas county line where he attended grade school at Shadel and graduated from Kim High School in 1941. Following high school, Loyd joined the service. He was a veteran of the US Navy having served during World War II from 1942-1946. He was a radioman on the destroyer USS Beale in the South Pacific. After returning home from the service, Loyd became self-employed as a farmer/rancher. He married Treva Marlene Weber on December 31, 1949. They had 2 children, Brenda and Darrell. Loyd and Treva lived within 3 miles of where Loyd grew up until their retirement in 2014 when they moved to La Junta, CO.   Loyd was a member of the local VFW Post 4001 in Springfield, CO where he was actively involved for many years.   Loyd enjoyed many years of ranching as he was heavily involved in Artificial Insemination of several exotic breeds of cattle (Limousin, Gelbvieh, Chianina, and Simmental) as they were first introduced to the United States. His pre-retirement hobby was raising miniature horses for several years. Loyd knew nothing but hard work was dedicated to his family and always lent a helping hand to his neighbors. Loyd’s greatest enjoyment was entertaining his grandchildren and great grandchildren on his 4-wheeler or with his miniature horses.   He was preceded in death by his father-Harvey Lewis Haney, his mother-Elsie Lorene (Andrews) Haney, 2 brothers-Chester Dale and Harvey Joe Haney, and son-in-law – Clifford Ray VanCampen.   Loyd is survived by his spouse-Treva (Weber) Haney of Aurora, CO, daughter-Brenda VanCampen of Lamar, CO, son-Darrell Haney of Aurora, CO, 4 grandchildren- Tanya (VanCampen) Estep and husband Shane of Lamar, CO, Chad VanCampen of McCook, NE, Brandi (Haney) Massie and husband Neal of Aurora, CO, and Whitni (Haney) Baumgartner and husband Brandon of Parker, CO.   He is also survived by 5 great grandchildren- Kalen Smith of Lamar, CO, Kynslie and Haven Massie of Aurora, CO, and Easton and Bella Baumgartner of Parker, CO.   Graveside services will be held Saturday, October 14, 2017, 10:30 am at Springfield Cemetery in Springfield, CO. The family is requesting memorial contributions be made to Springfield VFW Post 4001 in lieu of flowers. MAKE CHECK PAYABLE TO BACA COUNTY VFW POST 4001and mail to PO BOX 445, Springfield, CO 81073
