Lloyd C Robins was born April 4, 1934, to Robert and Altie (Parsons) Robins on his grandfather Jacob Robins’ homestead southwest of Springfield. He was the youngest of 8 children.

With his father being a minister, they moved quite a bit. Lloyd attended school at many places including - Montrose, Springfield, Fowler, Manzanola, Colorado Springs, and Yuma.

He and his dad were in the roofing business and also farmed 6 miles south of Springfield. While Lloyd was still in high school, his dad suffered a stroke. Being the man of the house, he decided to quit school and began to make a living for the family.

He continued the roofing business and did odd jobs on the side. Some of these jobs included-

●      hauling dirt for the construction of Highway 287 near Wiley in his brother Earl’s 6 yard dump truck

●      Working for J.T. Cooper doing construction work

●      Hauling broomcorn

●      Unloading boxcars of lumber at the railroad station for Jett Hardware

On July 31, 1955, Lloyd married Shirley Mae (Chenoweth) Robins. They were blessed with 3 children: Sherilyn Kay in 1956, David Lloyd in 1959, and Rodney Leroy in 1963. As a family they enjoyed camping, square dancing, boating, fishing, snow & water skiing. He was known to come home from work on Friday, to immediately head out for a family weekend of fun. After the kids were grown, Lloyd and Shirley began to travel to different areas within the United States.

At a young age his sons began a life-long working relationship with Lloyd, aka “the Boss”, as they called him. Being tired and worn out from the hot tar roofing business, in 1973, Robins Construction was formed with Lloyd’s boys helping during their spare time and after school. Lloyd was willing to employ just about anyone that was willing to work hard. He would often hire boys still in high school who wanted to work during the summer months. Also, he mentored young men that maybe nobody else would consider, believing everyone needed a chance.

The first house Lloyd built was their family home, which was built out of ammunition boxes. It was the beginning of constructing approximately 40 houses in and near Baca County.

As the construction of houses declined; in 1985, Lloyd and his sons decided to purchase the concrete plant and Robins Redi Mix was created. After many years of building this business, Lloyd retired. He sold his share of the business to Dave and Rod in 2004. For several years, he continued to drive truck; hauling sand and rock from Lamar to Springfield. He handed in his keys when he no longer felt he was able to drive the semi-truck safely.

Tragedy struck when Shirley became ill and passed away in 2002. Lloyd’s world crumbled, to say the least. That is, until he met and married Joy Glee (Neal) January 31, 2003, his second soulmate. He couldn’t wait to celebrate life with Joy. They traveled together and spent several winters in Zapata, TX.

During his retirement, Lloyd enjoyed woodworking. He set up a workshop in the basement. To keep down the dusty mess, he created a vacuum system that attached to the scroll saw he used. Lloyd was extremely hard working, even in his golden years. He was always doing something- mowing and taking care of the yard, woodworking, reading the Bible, working word puzzles, playing his harmonica, and he loved to sing. All of his family knew he had special love for each of them. However, the love he had for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren was, by far, the most prevalent and if there were any of ‘his’ grand or great-grand babies in the room, he had to be holding them.

Being an active community member, Lloyd served on Springfield City Council, Springfield School Board, and Springfield Volunteer Fire Department - serving as chief for a number of years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and taught a youth Sunday school class for several years.

The onset of Dementia began to take its toll on Lloyd. As the disease worsened, Joy remained by his side to care for him. He was admitted into the Alzheimer’s Unit of Long Term Care Center in Springfield in September 2024, with Joy spending her days there with him. On May 1, 2025 Lloyd passed away, peacefully; with his family at his bedside.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years Shirley Robins, parents - Robert & Altie Robins, and siblings Lola Pearl, Thelma Viola, Earl Wayne, Leroy Robert, Genevieve Mae, Lilliah Marie, and Stella Jane.

Lloyd is survived by his wife of 22 years- Joy Robins (Springfield), Sherilyn & Terral Hancock (Walsh), David & Denise Robins (Springfield), Rodney & Julie Robins (Springfield), Valerie & Kevin Unger (Mesa, AZ), Billie & Darin Abbiehl (Kronenwetter, WI), and Darin & Cristen Emrick (Ocean Springs, MS), 18 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren, and many other extended family members.
