Janice Kay Doyle was born January 24, 1943, in Dumas, TX and passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 4, 2017, in Kyle, TX due to the progressive complications from COPD. She was preceded in death by her parents Ray and Lois Moore and her husband, Dick Doyle. She is survived by her four children—Scott Doyle (Walsh, CO), Vic (Staci) Doyle and kids Dax (Okinawa, Japan), D’Lanee (Goodwell, OK) and D’Neil—Two Buttes, CO; Shannon Doyle (Stephen Burnham) and daughter, Cadee--Austin, TX; Darla Doyle and kids, Maci, Kaylee and Lexy—Mountain Creek, Queensland (Australia); Doug (Joy) Moore, brother—Boerne, TX; Gayle Porter, sister—Amarillo, TX; Randy (Gina) Moore, brother—Oak Point, TX; Stanley Seaton, brother in law--Austin, TX; John (Chris) Doyle, brother in law—Claude, TX and many nieces and nephews. Kay grew up in Spearman, TX in the country on a farm with three siblings, Gayle, Doug, and younger brother, Randy. She was raised in a Southern Baptist household. Following high school, she attended Texas Tech for one year before dropping out to temporarily work at a grain elevator in Gruver. This is where she first met her future husband, Dick Doyle. Around the time she met Dick, she was hired as an airline stewardess for American Airlines. She moved to New York City for one year and flew all over the country. While living in New York, Dick Doyle asked her to come back to Texas to marry him. They were married at her parents’ house and then resided in Gruver, TX. Scott, Vic, and Shannon were born in Texas before moving to Baca County, specifically Springfield, Colorado in 1972. Darla was born in Springfield in 1973. Dick had purchased several acres of farm and ranch land in Baca County including a goose camp and a house in the country two miles south of Springfield. She adapted and settled into her new home and life as a homemaker in Springfield. Throughout the years, she developed and maintained long-lasting friendships. Kay ensured her families’ needs were met by providing a safe, welcoming and comfortable home environment. She knew each of her children well, each with their own unique personalities and needs and always strived for a peaceful household. Kay became skilled at putting out fires and with the Doyle family, there were many. Throughout the years, she whole heartedly supported her children in athletics, hunting, and other activities. She was an avid golfer taking weekly “Ladies Day” golf trips to Lamar and was skilled with shooting a gun and at playing cards. She was a warm, gracious and attentive host, always offering her comfort food and drinks for those lucky enough to visit. She loved music and was well traveled. Kay received the tragic news in October of 1988 that Dick had perished in a plane crash. After Darla graduated from Springfield High, she made the difficult decision to leave Baca County and her dear friends and family to return to Texas. She made a new home for herself in Austin, TX which was also fairly close to Lakefront Lodge in Zapata and spent much of her time between Austin and Zapata. She easily made new friends in both places. Kay never remarried but spent several years with a great guy and senior pro golfer, Denny Stolhand. During her time in living in Austin, her grandchildren were born. Dax, D’Lanee, D’Neil, Maci, Kaylee and Lexy and Cadee were her pride and joy. They all called her “KK” even though she didn’t mind being called Grandma. She loved her grandchildren and enjoyed hearing about their accomplishments and talking with them by phone or on Facebook. She was incredibly proud of all of her grandchildren and made sure others knew it as well. Kay lost Denny to cancer and she began to experience symptoms of COPD. She remained at home for many years as her disease slowly progressed with the support of her daughter Shannon and her husband Stephen. She cherished the fact that she was able to help raise and nourish her youngest grandchild, Cadee, who brightened her days for 9 beautiful years. Eventually, Kay chose to move into an assisted living facility in Kyle, TX for additional support. She enjoyed reading about and talking with others on Facebook or by phone and played Facebook games. She always had a new book on her Kindle to read. Kay remained very strong and present emotionally and cognitively up until her last days. She never stopped smiling or caring about her family and continued to provide much-needed support and advice to those who chose to seek it. Kay exuded a calm, quiet confidence that drew people toward her. She was gentle, genuine, kind, thoughtful and entertaining. Kay maintained her faith throughout her life and took comfort in knowing she will see her loved ones again. She was loved dearly by her family and friends and she will live in their hearts forever. A memorial service for Kay was held in Springfield, CO at Maltbie Funeral Services, 265 West 8th Ave on Wednesday December 27th, 2:00 p.m. Burial took place in the Springfield Cemetery. Kay requested in lieu of flowers, that memorial contributions be given to the Gwendolyn Strong Foundation at www.TheGSF.org in honor of her granddaughter Cadee.
