Judy Rutherford made her final transition the morning of August 29, 2024, succumbing to thyroid cancer. Though she spent her life in Springfield, Colorado, Judy enjoyed traveling all over the country and even to Alaska and Australia to spend quality time with her children, (Vance and Dara) and her grandchildren, (Konner, Edan, Eric and Jade). They enjoyed spending time with Judy and her husband Ron on new adventures - from seeing “new things” like Two Buttes, Bent’s Old Fort or the canyons in the Commanche National Grassland or going to the farm, painting, drawing, singing, reading, cooking, telling silly jokes, creating huge birthday cards and so much more. Grandma Judy loved music and singing with her family and always had a prayer and a Bible verse to help with any of their challenges. She had so much delight in the flowers in her yard, gardening, canning, sharing vegetables with others, and decorating super big for Christmas.
Judy lived her life with unmatched kindness and positive outlook which she always shared and she left this earth wishing that her family and friends would find safety and comfort in the arms of God. She witnessed the power of love and tolerance to others and provided her optimism up to the last breath. While our hearts mourn the loss, we take comfort in knowing she is no longer suffering. In Judy’s final thoughts and words she expressed her pride for all her family which included so many she claimed as hers. Family and friends will truly miss her hugging arms and good advice that she shared so freely. She wanted to thank everyone for being her friend.
Judy worked hard and made a difference in the church and community. Early on, her flawless second-harmony with her sisters in the “Myers Gospel Quartet” gave her joy and pride. She helped by cooking for and feeding hard-working broomcorn hands at the Bishop ranch and pitched in with farming wherever she could. She later served as the custodian at Springfield Elementary for 27 years and was a cheerful friend to all the students and staff. Her love and guidance for the children endures through them. Judy believed in service and worked behind the scenes at Bar 4 Restaurant when help was needed, served as the custodian at the Post Office, provided housekeeping at Southeast Colorado Hospital for five years.
Judy is survived by, her husband Ronald Rutherford, son Vance Scott (wife Mary Beth), daughter Dara Scott and her grandchildren, Konner Scott, Edan Scott, Eric Scott, and Jade Wallace, her brother Karis (wife Jean) Myers, and her sisters Kathryn (husband Gerald) Gentzler and Arlis (husband Gary) Thompson. She was preceded in death by her father Arthur Myers, mother Vida Evallee Forpahl, brother Sidney (surviving wife Pearl) Myers, sister Virgie (husband Jake) Pace, and former husband Melvin Scott.
