Jef Loraine Shettron, 72 years old, died peacefully on May 2, 2021 in her Springfield home, surrounded by her loving family. Jef battled cancer for over 10 years. The love she had for family and her unwavering faith in God gave her the will to fight and push through some very difficult times. She found strength in scriptures like Psalms 46: 10, “He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted in the earth.””
Jef was born on August 23, 1948 in Walsh, Colorado to Earl K and Lena Mae Wagner. She was their only child. Jef grew up and attended school in Springfield, Colorado, where she enjoyed many activities but none more than cheerleading. It was while attending school that she met the love of her life, Bill. They were married in 1965 and he remained the love of her life for 56 years. Together they raised their three children (Ty, Tiffany, and Trevor) and created a legacy of love, faith, and family.
Jef had a gift of making others feel like a friend. Her home was always open and her willingness to engage made them feel comfortable and important. She enjoyed people and never met a stranger. Jef loved nothing more than just sitting on her back porch, visiting, and having a coke. As Proverbs 17: 22 says, “A joyful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit dries up the bones.” You couldn’t help but feel uplifted when in her presence. She loved her friends.
Nothing brought her as much joy as her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. They were her pride and joy. She always had time for them and rarely missed a game, event, or activity. They filled her heart with sunshine, and she poured her love out on them every day.
Another passion of Jef’s was her yard. It was always in immaculate condition. On more than one occasion, she was heard telling Bill how and where to plant something. She might have been a little bossy to say the least; and some might even say she was opinionated. She did like a good argument but respected other’s opinions.
Jef, might be best known for her unmatched ability to shop. To her, it wasn’t about the purchase but about The Hunt. She was obsessed with The Hunt! Whether at an antique store, auction, garage sale, thrift store or Salvation Army; she was looking for the treasures. Bill was known to sit in the car for many many many hours while Jef antiqued.
Jef was unapologetic about her faith in God and wanted to leave everyone with one of her favorite verses. Lamentations 3: 22-24, “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in Him.””
Jef is survived by husband, Bill Shettron; son, Ty Shettron (wife Amber); daughter, Tiffany West (husband Mike); son, Trevor Shettron (wife Courtney). Grandchildren, Tealia McCune (husband Jonathan); Tucker West (wife Samantha); Bailey Schroder (husband Austin); Braxton Morehead, Madi Sharp (husband Kelby); Brant Shettron, Brittani Shettron, Brenna Shettron.
