Janice Elaine Luff

Janice passed away on October 3, 2019, at Southeast Colorado Hospital in Springfield, Co with her Daughter Kelly and Granddaughter Kati by her side.

Janice was born on March 11, 1942, in Flint, Michigan to Sigward and Eleanore Skatt. She was the firstborn of 4 children. When Janice was 9 months old the family moved to Aitkin, MN to work on the family farm. Janice made that trip in the back window of a Ford Coupe.

Janice attended school at Lone Lake Elementary and Aitkin High School graduating in May of 1959. After graduating Janice moved to St. Paul, MN and worked at Highland Park State Bank and then Sears.

In 1961 she gave birth to her only daughter Kelly Wright.  While living in St. Paul she met and married the love of her life Bill Larry Luff. In 1970 they loaded up the family and moved to Denver, Co where

Janice worked for King Soopers for several years, until they decided to work for themselves and purchased The Log Cabin Inn. Over the course of the next several years, they owned and operated several bars/ restaurants.

In November of 1985, Janice and Bill were blessed with the birth of their Granddaughter Kati McCormick. It didn’t take long for them to decide to retire to Springfield, CO to assume the best roles of their lives; that of being Nanny and Poppy. Nanny was always ready for any of the neighborhood kids with a treat and a smile. She was affectionately called Nanny by all from then on. In 1997 Demora Lasley came into Nanny’s life to love and spoil. She was always Nanny’s little beanie girl.

Janice loved to sew, read, and especially cook and bake for her family and friends. She was well known through the county for all of her goodies, whether it be cooking harvest meals, bake sales, or just fixing her friends and neighbors a treat. She and Kelly spent countless hours over the last 20 years baking for Children’s Miracle Network bake sales and making tons of precious memories. She could always be counted on if you needed a recipe or needed to know how to tweak something just right.

Janice is survived by her daughter Kelly (Steve) Wright of Walsh, Co,  Granddaughter Kati McCormick of Buena Vista, Co, Demora Lasley of Springfield, Co, Sisters Bev Nix of Aitkin, MN, Sharyl (Grant) Odegard of

Duluth, MN, Brother Duane Skatt of Aitkin, MN, Niece Melinda (Steven) Lanham and family of Brainerd, MN, Nephew Chris Odegard of Duluth, MN and many, many friends and neighbors.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband Bill Larry Luff, parents Sigward and Eleanore Skatt, grandparents and great grandparents.

What a joyous reunion they are having! Until we are together again she will be deeply loved and missed by all who knew her.
