James (Jim) B. Edmisson was born February 3, 1922, in Bristow Oklahoma to Clara Tenny Mayabb and Albert Parker Edmisson.  “Little” Jimmy, as he was lovingly referred to by this mother, grew up in Englewood, KS graduating high school in 1939. He became the man of the house when his father died when Jimmy was 14 years old.  He established a love for cars at an early age and owned his first car at 10 years old. Jimmy worked odd jobs while he attended school to support himself and his mother. On Feb. 7, 1942, he was involved in a car accident that would set his course of life. He was admitted to Murray Memorial Hospital in Dodge City Kansas where he was treated for multiple injuries and a broken leg. A young nurse by the name of Vennette (Vee) Springer was assigned to care for Jimmy and a relationship that lasted for 74 years began. On April 15, 1942, young Jimmy was dismissed from the hospital with his wounds healed and a cast on his leg. On May 1, 1942, he made the young nurse, Vennette, who had nursed him back to health, his wife.  He didn’t have a job, money, or a car but he had the woman who would be by his side to create a family and a future. The young couple moved to California where Jim worked in the shipyards as an electrician. In 1943 they started their family when their first child, Tanya was born.  They moved back to Englewood, Kansas where over the ensuing years Jim ran a filling station, worked as a farm and ranch hand for a large farming operation and was employed by the Co-Op grain elevator. In 1946 the family grew as daughter Janet was born and in 1949 a son, J.C. was added to the family. In 1956 a set of twins, Dena and Dana, joined the family and in 1958 their last child, Roxann, was born.  Five girls and one boy had made the family complete. Over the years Jim and his family would live in Kansas, Oklahoma, and Colorado. In 1973 Jim was offered the job as manager of the Springfield CO-OP Credit Union in Springfield, Colorado. Jim helped the Credit Union expand into a new building consequently becoming Peoples Credit Union. Jim retired in 1984 to become a Winter Texan and spend time in Zapata, Texas fishing and reconnecting with old friends. Jim and Vee sold their property in Zapata in 2002 and over the next 16 years lived in Kansas and Colorado. The couple lived in Assisted Living in Lamar Colorado as Vee battled stomach cancer. On July 5, 2016, Vee said her goodbyes and told her family to take care of  “dad” and went to her eternal home. Jim was now alone after 74 years of marriage to the love of his life. He settled into his cozy apartment at Springfield West and began living independently.  He was always available to visit with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who would call him for advice or for an update on the weather. Jim entered Southeast Colorado Hospital on April 30, 2018, and lost his battle against pneumonia on May 11, 2018. Jim is survived by Tanya Rojas of Iowa, Janet Isenbart of Kansas, J.C. Edmisson of Kansas, Dana (Zach) Barker of Kansas, Dena Utt of Texas, and Roxann (Rick) Porter of Springfield. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.  Jim requested cremation and a family celebration in his memory will be held at a later time. If you would like to express your sympathy, the family would appreciate donations be sent to Southeast Colorado Hospital, 373 E. 10th Ave., Springfield, CO 81073, in Jim’s memory.
