A Celebration of Life service will be held Friday, July 16 at 2:00 p.m. at the Springfield Baptist Chapel for Iris Mae Taff.

Iris was born in Springfield on November 28, 1931, to the late Fred & Mary Gibson. She had a twin sister & was one of 11 children. She passed away July 5, 2021, at the Southeast Colorado Hospital in Springfield.

Iris married J.T. Taff September 15, 1951, and they had three children – Debbie, Kathy & Steve.

Everyone was Iris’ friend. She referred to herself as that “nice lady.” Various words have been used to describe her - a firecracker, quite the character, feisty, spunky, one of a kind, a 2 nd Mom, sweetheart, a hoot, fun, loving, special, an icon – to name just a few.

Iris was very proud of her yard and did her own mowing until last year at the age of 88 years old. She had more energy than most people much younger than her. And until recently, she baked cakes and delivered them to the Nursing Home for the “old people”.

The police & EMT’s always responded when her life alert button would accidently get pushed when she was mowing her yard. When they arrived, she would look up at them and say “oops, I did it again.”

Iris is survived by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren:

Iris had a very special relationship with her nephew Kevin Greenlee. He was her BFF and called her almost daily to “shoot the breeze,” which was the highlight of her day.

Kevin was a huge blessing in her life. Their love for one another was unconditional.

Surviving siblings Larry Gibson, Springfield; Margaret Wade, Springfield; and Lenie Shaw, Selden, KS. Tons of nieces & nephews who knew her personally.
