On June 16, 1961 Irene married Dale Lee Huffman in Boise City, Oklahoma. After the wedding, Dale and Irene moved to Pritchett, Colorado. It was then that they had the joy of two children joining them in life. A son, Gregory Dale Huffman and a daughter, Sheryl Lynn Huffman. Those children became the highlight of her life. Irene was a stay at home mother to her children for several years. After that, Irene took a job at Pritchett School as a cook. She cooked warm meals for kids to enjoy each day. She loved all the kids that came through those halls.
After working as a cook, Irene became a CNA at Southeast Colorado Hospital in the Alzheimer's unit. The residents were like family to her. She enjoyed caring for each and everyone of them. Irene is known for her compassionate heart. It didn’t matter what was going on that day she jumped in and worked hard.
In younger years, Irene liked going camping and playing pitch with family. Irene was mostly found reading books and drinking coffee. Irene enjoyed spending time with her kids and grandkids. Her favorite past time included playing solitaire and working puzzles on her computer. During Christmas time, Irene loved making candy.
When Irene moved to Springfield West she was very happy. Her apartment became her comfort. She enjoyed all her neighbors. On Saturday night you could find her playing dominos in the clubhouse. Springfield West has been a blessing to her.
