Frances L. Mcvey

Frances Louise McVey of Springfield, Colorado, passed away on January 2 ^nd , 2020 at the age of 94. Frances was born on July 7 ^th , 1925 to Robert Lee Johnson and Mary Ella Griscom-Johnson in La Junta, Colorado. She grew up with her brothers, Lee and JY, on a ranch outside of Kim, Colorado.

Frances was 17 when she graduated from Kim High School, but she had already started teaching in the Kim community when she was only 16 years old. She continued to teach here for the next several years and it was during this time that Frances met Clyde Ervin McVey at a community dance. Later on, Frances moved to Greeley, Colorado to attend Colorado State College (later renamed UNC). She graduated with her teaching license in 1953 and, on the day after her graduation, was married to Clyde in Greeley.

Clyde and Frances made their home in Springfield, Colorado, where Clyde farmed and ranched and Frances taught at Springfield Elementary School. They welcomed their first child, James Mark McVey, in 1959 and were blessed with their daughter, Melissa Lee McVey, in 1962. Their youngest, David Scott McVey, would join the family shortly after in 1963. In total, Frances taught for over thirty years in Southern Colorado and was a well-respected, inspirational member of the Springfield community.

Frances is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Lee and JY Johnson; her husband, Clyde; her youngest son, Scott; and her eldest grandchild, Jay Walker. She is survived by her son Mark and his wife Linda McVey of Springfield; her daughter Melissa McVey of Gilroy, California; three grandchildren, David James and wife Jessica McVey of Colorado Springs, Shelby Lee and Travis Matthew of Cheraw, and Allison Anne McVey of Englewood; four great-grandchildren (Ellie, Katy, and Peyton Matthew, and Jameson McVey), and numerous friends.
