Eva Mae Dunlap

Eva Mae Dunlap was born in Burlington, Oklahoma to Clayton and LaVerne (Hiatt) Bowers on August 13, 1928.  The Lord called Eva home to heaven on November 18, 2019, at the age of 91.

Her childhood was spent in many one-room schoolhouses, in Kansas, and in Colorado as her father was a teacher and pastor.  She attended high school at Friends Bible Academy and attended college at Friends Bible College in Haviland, Kansas, majoring in Education.  After graduation, she moved with the family to Springfield, Colorado where she worked as a telephone operator and a soda jerk at Ray’s drugstore where she met the love of her life, Gene Dunlap.

Gene and Eva were married on October 1, 1950.  They were blessed with four children:  Sherrill, Janis, Beverly, and Robert.  Eva was a homemaker and also worked alongside her husband, Gene, and together they owned and operated the Traders Thriftway grocery store in Springfield for 65 years.

Eva loved the Lord and enjoyed her Bible and church family.  The greatest joy she had was her husband, children, grandchildren & great-grandchildren.  She also enjoyed sewing, word-search puzzles, and her dogs.

She is survived by three of her children:  Janis (Jim) Jesser of Olathe, CO; Beverly (Tom) Rutledge of Evergreen, CO; Rob (Debbie) Dunlap of Falcon, CO and son-in-law, Dale Brown of Macy, IN; ten grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gene; sister, Annabelle Hinshaw; daughter, Sherrill Brown, and granddaughter, Tammy Brown.

Funeral services were held at First Baptist Church in Springfield on Saturday, November 23, 2019, at 2:00 pm.  Interment was in the Springfield Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mountain View Bible Church, P.O. Box 74, Lazear, CO 81420.
