Elsie Marie (Wait) Cox was born on October 24, 1934, on the family farm west of Campo, Colorado to Edward and Anna Wait. She had eight siblings. Elsie married Othel (Pete) Polson in 1948. They had two daughters, Judy and Trudy; and a son, Danny. They traveled between Oklahoma and Colorado for several years before settling in Campo, Colorado around 1958.

Elsie worked at Jett Hardware for several years and also worked road construction as a flagger. Elsie then moved to Ochelata, Oklahoma where she worked as a butcher then as a grocery cashier.

Elsie met and married Frank Cox and they continued living in Oklahoma for several years before moving to Buckeye, Arizona. There Elsie stayed home and enjoyed making crafts and raised all sorts of animals. She had a small wood cutting business and she was also a talented painter.

Elsie lost her son, Danny, in 2009 which left a huge void in her heart.

Elsie and Frank moved back to Campo in 2011 they then moved to Springfield where Frank passed away in the Springfield SE Hospital. Elsie remained in Springfield until 2022 where she then moved to Bear Creek Nursing facility in Colorado Springs and was there when she passed. Elsie leaves behind two daughters Judy Collins and Trudy Apel, a son-in-law Pete Apel, grandsons, Justin Tanner (Missy), Jeff Montgomery (Nicole), Kevin Montgomery and Daniel Polson; granddaughters Pam Tanner and Tonya Polson; great-grandson Mitchel Tanner; great-granddaughters, Katie Powell (Brandon), Riley Montgomery (Brooklyn), Samantha Montgomery, Elise Tanner, Mia Collins, Kauinoelani Celeste Collins; and great great-grandsons Zeke Powell and Easton Powell. Elsie was preceded in death by granddaughter Cynthia Montgomery, son-in-law Rick Collins, son Danny Polson, grandson Brandon Collins, her parents, and seven siblings. Elsie was very loved and will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be on Thursday, October 2, 2025 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. at Maltbie Funeral Services Chapel, located at 265 W. 8th Avenue, Springfield, Colorado 81073.

A graveside service honoring Elsie's life will be at the Campo Cemetery on October 3, 2025 at 2:00 p.m.
