Doug Ray was born on May 31, 1966, in Boise City, Oklahoma to Ted and Ozella (Smith) Lasley.

Doug attended school in Springfield, graduating in 1984. He continued his education at Lamar Community College, to study auto mechanics. Doug began his farming career somewhere between 10-12 years of age; planting and combining with his Dad. Farming and mechanic work were Doug’s passion and he excelled, repairing, and rebuilding many items on the farm. Doug was an accomplished welder. He was known for planting some of the straightest rows in the county. Doug worked for Charlie Humes for a period of time.

Hired hands came and went; Doug enjoyed working with all of them. One of his favorite co-workers was Terry Mullins. Doug said that Terry made the work more like fun. Another friend in farming was Brent Schroder. Brent said, “Doug was always happy to see and visit with you, but also avoided a crowd.”

Doug married Carol Rogge Nickerson in 1999; even though this union did not last; Doug gained a daughter, Dara; and together Doug and Carol had a baby girl, Demora.

Doug wasn’t afraid to live his life. He climbed the windmill while still in training shoes, somersaulted his motorcycle in our driveway; he suffered a few broken bones. Doug loved the water and would swim any time; he even braved an icy cattle tank once. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, boating, fishing, and visiting the local lakes and canyons with family and friends. Doug loved having fun.

Doug Ray Lasley passed away Thursday, August 11, 2022, in Colorado Springs, Colorado; he was 56 years old.

Doug is preceded in death by his grandparents; twin sister, Dara Kay; and mother, Ozella Lasley.
