Allen Warren Ownbey, 59, passed away on October 2nd, 2020, at his home in Campo, Colorado, surrounded by his family, after a seven year battle with cirrhosis of the liver. Allen was born on June 27th, 1961, to Marion “Pete” and Juanita (Crissman) Ownbey in Lamar, Colorado.

Allen went to school in Vilas, Colorado, where he graduated  in 1979. After graduation, he attended college in Liberal, Kansas, on a baseball scholarship. After college he came back home to farm and  ranch with his dad, brother, and uncles.

In 1981, he met Sherrie Wallace and after a couple of years she put her foot down and told him that if he wanted to see her anymore, he was going to have to start coming to town  instead of her going out to the farm to see him. He always used the excuse that he had milk cows so he was too busy.  A week later on November 5,1983, they married in Boise City, Oklahoma.  They moved to the Jim Perkins Ranch in 1984 and that’s where they made their home for over thirty years. To this union three children were born, Alyse, Paige, and Ty.

He served many years on different committees: the Campo School Board, Campo Grazing Association, Colorado Farm Bureau Association Board, and was a volunteer for the Campo Fire Department.

Allen is survived by his wife Sherrie of 36 years, daughters, Alyse (Jeremy) Jackson of Campo and Paige (Anthony) LeBlanc of Campo, son Ty Ownbey of Campo, grandchildren BriLynn and Tayten Jackson, Bentley, Jase, Holden and Cooper LeBlanc, mother Juanita Ownbey, sisters, Carol Cousin and Debbie (Derrell) Hearne, brother Kink (Deb) Ownbey, Mother -in- law Violet Allen, sister- in- law Carrie Blake, brother-in-law Dwayne (Michelle) Wallace, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a  host of dear friends.

He is preceded in death by his father, Marion “Pete” Ownbey,  brother-in-law Pete Cousins, father-in-laws Linnis Wallace and Dennis Allen.

Allen loved life and lived life with gusto, and believed family, friends, ranching, team roping, and sports were essential for a happy life. He enjoyed teaching his kids and grandkids how to be ornery, to play basketball and baseball and everything that pertains to ranching.  He also loved to irritate his wife, kids and grandchildren and pretty much everyone he came into contact with.
