Ethel Iva Evans Ormiston was Born July 20, 1916 in Dewey County, Oklahoma, close to a town called Camargo; and went to school at at two room school house in Bloomfield.
At the age of 8 1/2 years, she moved by covered wagon to Colorado, near Utleyville. She spent most of her school years in the Sunderland School, including 2 years at Kim, and had to quit half way through her junior year.
There were seven in her family; Elmer Acy, George Arther, Hazel Lillian, Ethel Iva, Elna Eileen, Helen Lucille and Charlie Harold; her parents were John Elmer and Gertrude June Cardiff.
Ethel worked all around the area, mostly cleaning. She worked three and half years at the Colorado Hotel in Pritchett.
She then met Ed and they married December 22, 1937. Ed and Ethel moved to Hasty and did farm work until 1939. They moved back to Kirkwell and built the Rock House on the corner of County Roads M and 8. They moved several more times over the years working for the local farmers and ranchers.
In 1947 they moved back to the old home place southwest of Kirkwell and built the Rock House there. Over the years they moved several more times, to Las Animas, and Cedar Edge, Colorado; but they always came back to Baca County. On New Years Day 1960, they moved to their place in Pritchett and that was their home.
In later years, Ed and Ethel loved to spend summers fishing in the Gunnison area, seeing friends and going to church in Springfield, Gunnison and Pritchett. After losing Ed, October 3, 2005, she lived in Pritchett several more monthes until moving to the Walsh Long Term Care Center for two monthes and then transferring to Springfield LTC. She was very busy attending activities which included church, bingo, bible study and her favorite, reading.
Ethel had many friends, nieces, nephews and other relatives, and will be sadly missed.
