Goldie Beatrice Deen-Hall was born August 28, 1920 and departed this life on March 14, 2008 after a courageous 5 year battle with cancer. Goldie was the 5th of 9 children born to Frank and Virginia Deen. They lived south of Vilas in Southeast Colorado and she spent her childhood there and attended school at Vilas. She helped her parents with the work and especially with cooking for workers. That is how she met Harry Hall, he thought she was a great cook! They fell in love and were married in Dec. 1939. They lived in Vilas where their only child was born, a son, Larry Gene Hall. When Larry was 8 years old they moved to a farm just East of Vilas. Harry and Larry farmed together until 1968 and when Harry semi-retired, he and Goldie built a home and moved to Springfield. She missed the farm but adjusted quickly to city life. Goldie always loved to cook, do hobbies and did beautiful hand work. She spent her extra hours doing these things when not helping out with the farm. In later years she and her sister-in-law Paula Deen, made wonderful homemade candies which they shared with friends and family during the Christmas Holidays. They both really loved doing that and Goldie tried to continue by herself when Paula was gone but it just wasn’t the same. She loved giving candy and would still sometimes just go to Alco and get candy and give to the workers at LTC. She always loved to share things she had baked and her hand work, with friends and family. Just so she could fix some more. She loved doing this. While Harry still could, he and Goldie spent time traveling to AZ and numerous other places. They had friends they traveled and fished with and had some great times. They got to celebrate 56 years together. Harry passed away in 1996. She loved her family, especially granddaughter Kelley and great grandson’s Sawyer and Parker. She always loved to play games like Skip-Bo challenging whoever, especially her great grandsons. She played Bingo as often as she could and was pretty lucky at it. Goldie joined the First United Methodist Church and was a faithful member there until she wasn’t able to attend anymore. She appreciated Pastor Eric’s visits very much and he gave her encouragement that helped her through her battle with the cancer. She adjusted to being in LTC and made many wonderful friends there. She appreciated her care takers as well as her friends. She crocheted and played card games until she just didn’t feel like it anymore. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband Harry; also her sister’s Doris, Evelyn, Dorothy, Rachel; and brothers Tip and Jesse. Remaining family include, son Larry and wife Eileen of Vilas, CO and Gold Canyon, AZ; granddaughter Kelley and husband Steven Pace; great grandson’s Sawyer and Parker all of Amarillo, TX; sister Gladys of Campo and sister Anice of Spencer, Iowa; also, many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and a host of friends. She will be sadly and lovingly missed by all. I’M FREE Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m Free I’m following the path God laid for me, I took His Hand when I heard Him call. I could not stay another day, To laugh, to love, to work or play. Tasks left undone must stay that way. I found that place at the beginning of the day. If my parting has left a void; Than fill it with remembered joy. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss. Ah yes, these things, I too, will miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow. I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My life’s been full, I savored much. Good friends, good times, a loved one’s touch.. Perhaps my time seemed all too brief; Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your heart and share with me; God wants me now, He set me free. --Author Unknown
