Myrtle Ann Myers was born on November 3, 1921 on a farm 10 miles south of Prichett, Colorado at Dad's HOMESTEAD. She departed this life on February 28, 2009 at her home at the age of 87 years. Myrtle was the fourth child born to Clyde (deceased) and Wille Myers (deceased). She had one brother, O.C. Myers (deceased) and three sisters; Leda Tucker (deceased), Lenna E. Bishop (deceased), and Clydeen Hutchinson. She lived on the farm growing up and stayed in school through the Dust Bowl Days and graduated from Pritchett High School in May of 1940. She attended one year at Lamar Community College, and finished her college at Greeley College and Adams State College in Alamosa, graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1965 from Adams State College. The family's church affliation was Southern Baptist; she accepted the Lord as her Savior and was baptized when she and Ellis were together; but due to her not feeling good and her illness she wasn't able to attend church but enjoyed watching it on television on Channel 6. She and sister Lenna went to LaJunta in 1941 and worked at the LaJunta air Force Base in a diner. She married Ellis K. Irvin on May 16, 1945. During their marriage she taught school in elemetary education; seven years in Williams, Arizona and Tucson, Arizona. She taught Papago Indian children on the reservation at Sells, Arizona and taught Kindergarten one year. She taught three years at Little Valley, Utah on the Great Salt Lake Crossing. Myrtle and Ellis moved to Las Animas, Colorado in 1960 where she continued teaching at Las Animas Elementary in the 3rd grade for eight years. Ellis passed away on May 26, 1966 at his home in Las Animas, Colorado. She moved to Springfield in the summer of 1968. She taught 3rd and 4th grade at Springfield Elementary. Her last ten years of teaching were at Walsh, teaching two years in the 2nd grade and eight years in the 3rd grade. She retired from teaching school in August 1980. Myrtle met Glen Embers in 1970 and the couple were married December 17, 1970; they went to Hawaii for their honeymoon. During their years together they traveled to Florida, New Orleans, Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Kansas, and Oklahoma. They took in Glen's grandson, Mike Roberds at the age of 9 in 1974 and raised him. He graduated from Pritchett High School in 1984 and attended Otero Junior College two years. Mike and Patty and their children are living on Glen's farm north of Pritchett. Glen and Myrtle were married for 26 years, when after a long illness and lots of Chemotherapy treatments, Glen passed away at Southeast Colorado Hospital on December 27, 1996. Myrtle is preceded in death by her father and mother, Clyde and Willie Myers; her sisters, Lenna Bishop and Leda Tucker; and brother, O.C. Myers. Also, a great niece Gwen (Myers) DeBurger and a sweet great nephew Scott J. (Scotty) Graff. She is survived by her sister Clydeen Hutchinson, sister-in-law, Ellen Myers, two sisters-in-law from the Irvin family, Patricia Woodward of Windsor, Colorado; and Janie Irvin of Lawrence, Kansas; also a brother-in-law, Troy Irvin of Adenlanto, California. Myrtle is suvived by step-grandson, Mike (Patty) Roberds; step-grandchildren Dakota, Adam, and Anna Marie. Her niece Anna Lee Graff of Springfield and great nephew Eddie of Denver, Colorado; niece Eudora (Sherrill) West of Springfield; niece Jean Tucker of Lamar, Colorado; nephews, Carroll Myers of Sprinfield; Brycel Myers of Granada, Colorado; Wayne Myers of Guymon, Oklahoma; and two nieces, Jackie (Buster) Schupman of Guymon, Oklahoma; and Leola Johnson of Bentonville, Arkansas. Myrtle will be sadly missed as she touched so many lives by all the students she taught over the years and the many people she knew in the community. She was a sweet and dear lady. She will be sadly missed by her caregiver Carol Ellis.
