David Elmo Hiner, 96; died February 5, 2009 at the Southeast Colorado Hospital in Springfield, Colorado. He had been a resident of the Southeast Colorado Long Term Care Center for the last three years. He was born September 14, 1912 in Laverne Oklahoma, the son of David and Ella (Findley) Hiner. Elmo grew up and went to school in the Campo and Edler areas. Over the years he was engaged in farming, raising cattle, driving a school bus for Edler School and Springfield school. After retiring he worked for Southeast Colorado Hospital in maintenance and landscaping. Elmo married Dorothy Delora Mason on December 24, 1939 in Springfield, Colorado; to this union was born Lawrence, Chester, Lester, Dorothy, and Betty. Survivors include two sons, Lawarence Hiner and wife, Leslie of Seattle Washington; Chester Hiner and wife, Terrie of Ulysses Kansas; and one daughter, Betty Hebberd of Walsh Colorado. Twelve grandchildren, Lance Hiner of Seattle Washington; Loren Hiner and wife, Karin of Sumnar Washington; Lowell Hiner and wife, Kelly of Spokane Washington; Trina (Hiner) Stum and husband, Todd of Syracuse Kansas; Frina (Hiner) Kaiser and husband, Darrell of Quinter Kansas; Gary Reed and wife, Starla of Springfield Colorado; Gregory Reed and wife Deana of Lakin Kansas; Galen Reed of Walsh Colorado; David Hebberd of Campo Colorado; Trisha (Hebberd) Malone and husband, Todd of Walsh Colorado; Geston and wife, D’ann of Campo Colorado; Kayla (Hebberd) Davis and husband, Bradey of Holly Colorado; thirty-eight great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews and friends. Elmo was preceded in death by his parents, David and Ella Hiner; wife, Delora; brothers, Ernest Hiner, Glen Hiner, Lester Hiner, and Wayne Hiner; sisters, Pearl Snodgrass, Stella Williams, and Sylvia Ketterman; son, Lester Hiner; daughter, Dorothy Cowgill; son-in-laws ,Johnny Reed, George Cowgill, and Kenny Hebberd; a grandchild; one great granddaughter, and one great grandson. Elmo had the sweetest disposition and was the rock of Gibraltar for ALL his family members. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. HE WAS THE NICEST MAN!!!
