Judith (Judi) Callahan was born October 2, 1951 in Lamar, CO and was the oldest of eight children. The majority of her childhood was spent in Springfield, Colorado where she grew up with her best friend her sister Deana Crane. Judi was a go getter even in her early years where she participated in track and cheerleading. She graduated with the Springfield Class of 1970.
In 1969 she married the love of her life Riley Callahan. During their 46 years of marriage they raised two daughters Melissa RiLynn and Bronwyn Janae. They enjoyed camping, arrow head hunting, fishing, boating and all the adventures of the wide open spaces of Wyoming.
In addition to being a full 1 ½ time mother and wife Judi worked at the Wamsutter Elementary School where she was able to show her love for children. Judi was a strong believer that everyone deserved a chance and everyone was special. With Judi there was truly “no child left behind”. Judi also never met a stranger because everyone was instantly a friend. She could make anyone comfortable in her kind nature and willingness to help any time of day. She was a beautiful lady inside and out.
While her happiest times where spent with family her real pride and joy were her four grandchildren, Garett, Karley, Elysa and Wyatte. For Judi there was no greater enjoyment than listening, watching and learning from her grandchildren. She was not shy in sharing how smart and perfect she thought they were. Anyone who stood next to Judi in a line and received the benefit of seeing her “brag book” can attest to this.
On July 14, 2015 after a lengthy illness, Judi passed away in her home. During her last few hours she was able to do the very thing she loved…..listening to her family and friends. Judi was a wonderful wife, mother, mother-in-law, sister, aunt and daughter. She is irreplaceable and will be sadly missed every day.
Judith is survived by her husband Riley Callahan of Rollins WY, her daughters Melissa (Jason) Loner of Ottumwa Iowa, and Bronwyn Callahan of Rock Springs WY. She is also survived by grandchildren Karley Callahan, Garett Loner, Elysa Loner, and Wyatte Loner and her mother LaVona Hoover of Springfield CO.
Extended surviving family members include her siblings Mamie (Mike) Humphrey, Deana (Gale) Crane, Eddie Hoover, Barbara Stapleton, Quienith Twombley, as well as numerous nieces and nephews all from Springfield CO.
Judith was preceded in death by her father Dale Hoover, Daughter Tiffany Callahan, Brother Jay Don Hoover, and Brother Gary Hoover.
