Linnie Arbuthnot was born in Springfield, Colorado on April 13, 1919 to Jess Earl Henson and Effie Amanda May (Denney) Henson. Surrounded by her family, she went home to be with her Lord January 10, 2009.
Linnie married Virgil William Arbuthnot on November 9, 1934. They were married sixty-four years before he preceded her in death on April 9, 1999. Linnie missed him terribly for the last ten years. Linnie and Virgil had six children; Laura Ethel May Wessler, John Virgil Arbuthnot, William Jess Arbuthnot, Jackie Lou Packard, Bonnie Sue Arbuthnot and Curtis Lane Arbuthnot.
Anyone who knew Linnie knew these things about her: she loved the Lord; she loved her family; she loved her church family; she loved to go camping and fishing at Blue Mesa and was very good at fishing. She always said she caught the first, the most and the biggest. She loved Snickers. She loved to crochet and quilt and to give those items to those she loved. She loved to bowl and pitch horse shoes and was very competitive about both of them. AND she was ready to go home to be with the Lord.
Linnie was involved in many things through the years. She was a loving wife, Mother and Grandmother. She was faithful to her church and served as Treasurer of the First Baptist Church Missionary Society where there always seemed to be a quilt to work on or a care package to send to missionaries on the field. For many years she made "monster cookies" for Vacation Bible School. She was a charter member of the S&C Club of the Big Rock Community and a long time member of the Big Rock Grange where she received the Golden Sheaf Certificate for fifty years of continuous sevice. Words cannot adequately express the void that will be left with her passing.
Linnie was preced in death by her parents; her husband Virgil; her sons John and Billy; grandchildren, Vonn Lyle Wessler, V.L. Wessler and wife, Kelley Wessler; great grandchildren, Amanda Mae Howard, Breckin Brenae Arbuthnot and Leah Rene' Mizer. Linnie was the last surviving child of Jess and Effie Henson. Her siblings Encell, Sue, Evelyn, Willie, Jack and Everett preceded her in death. We can only rejoice at the reunion there must have been in heaven at her going home.
She is survived by her children, Laura and Melvin Wessler of Springfield; Jackie and Leonard Packard of Pueblo West; Bonnie Arbuthnot of Dumas, Texas; Curtis and Bonna Arbuthnot of Springfield; and Thelma Arbuthnot of Springfield. Also surviving Linnie are twelve grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and one on the way; six great-great-grandchildren and many other family and friends.
