Donald Dale Gibson was born July 9th, 1935 in Walsh Colorado to Milton Leslie Gibson and Iva Hurst Gibson. He went home to be with The Father on October 30th 2008.
Dad went to Konantz School east of Walsh Colorado and graduated high school in Springfield Colorado in 1953. He accepted Yeshua as his savior when he was 16 years old. After growing in the word serving Yehweh became one of his greatest joys.
After graduating he went to work at the White Sands Testing Facility as a civilian mechanic. He worked on rocket engines there.
He was married in 1956 to Mary Lee Hurlbut. He married again in 1961 to Shirley Lyn Turner. He married a third time in 1979 to Mary Day. From those Marriages Don had two children in the first marriage Mike Bradford and Ginger Reid. There was one child in his second marriage, Jeff Gibson. He was also a loving stepfather to Cherry , Lana Christy, Mike Johnson, Gena Lee and Connie Lewis. In the third marriage there was also step children. Dian Morsey and Brad Day. He had 31 grand children and 7 great grandchildren.
Dad was a humble man who truly found joy in the simple things of life. He would rather watch children at play than watch the latest good movie to come out. He would always smile when he was scratching some old hound's back until the dogs back leg was shaking uncontrollably. He was a master at tickling a cat's ear or feet just to the point that the cat would give him a dirty look without actually getting up and moving away. He was able to find beauty in the middle of a blizzard and could find some thing good to say about a blistering hot day. He was quick to smile and slow to anger.
He got more satisfaction out of squeezing another 15,000 miles out of his old pickup that he ever could have gotten from driving a new one.
Dad had a quiet strength and sense of peace that followed him every where. When trials would come and things looked really bad, he could walk into the room and look the situation over. He would inevitably say "Oh, I don't think it's that bad." Suddenly the mountains that were there just moments before became much smaller hills.
When Dad talked to somebody he would almost always tell them what a good job they were doing or give them some encouragement. I can honestly say I never heard Dad say something spiteful or belittling about some one; not to their face and not to their back.
Dad was one of the hardest working men I have ever known. He had the best work ethic until the very end. I never heard anyone accuse dad of doing anything fast. What he lacked in speed he more than made up for in consistency.
Nearly without exception I could beat dad out of the gate but when I reached the finish line somehow dad was already there to greet me.
Dad was one of those rare men that God sent here to show the rest of us how it should be done.
After the last few days listening to all the people who either called or came by and told me how deeply he impacted their lives, and how much he encouraged them. I have begun to see that the footprint he left behind is much bigger than I had ever imagined.
He will be missed.
