She was the 3rd of 8 children born to Henry Sylvester and Lillie May Medley. The Medley children went to school in a one room schoolhouse at District 21 (Beulah) and Konantz. During High School, Ruby and her sister Hazel lived with a family in Walsh where Ruby graduated from High School in 1941. After graduation Ruby went to Cosmetology School in Colorado Springs and received her Colorado License in 1942. On March 6, 1942 Ruby married Ike Ross. For the first year of her marriage she operated Ruby’s Beauty Shop in Walsh. Ruby and Ike farmed 11 miles outside of Walsh and became parents to Deloras, Del, and Mel. In 1953 they moved to Springfield where two more children, Pam and Rick were born. In 1963 Ike and Ruby purchased the Capital Theatre and with co-owner, Bernard Newman, formed Baca Theaters, which included the Capital , the Kar-Vu Drive–In in Springfield and the Gem Theatre in Walsh. In 1978, after almost 36 years of marriage, Ike suffered a heart attack and died. Ruby continued to operate the theaters after Ike’s death. She remodeled the Capital in 1979 and in 1980, purchased Mr. Newman’s share of the theater corporation. For the next 22 years, Ruby, with help from her family and friends and a long list of loyal employees, made sure Baca County enjoyed the most recent movies and, of course , the scrumptious pizza which she became famous for. Ruby was especially proud that her efforts kept the theaters in business for over two decades. In 2000, after a total of 38 years in the theater business, Ruby sold the theaters. In 1998 Ruby was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and became a resident of the Cottage in 2010, where she remained until her death on January 28, 2015. Ruby is preceded in death by her husband, Ike, her parents and siblings Bertha Bohl, Mary Emma Medley, Alice Hetrick, Vesta May Gibson, and Robert Medley. She is survived by her 5 children, Deloras (Neal) Rusco, Del (Linda) Ross, Mel Ross, Pam (Ron) Masterson, and Rick (Tina) Ross, 14 Grandchildren 27 Great Grandchildren, and 10 Great Great Grandchildren, a sister Hazel, a brother Richard (Euvonne) and numerous nieces and nephews.
