Marguerite Virginia Loflin was born in Hereford Texas to Alonza B. Short and Velma Evans December 8, 1916. She had an older sister, Imogene and a Younger brother Doug.
After a big plains snow storm Virginia’s Father who was a sheep rancher, lost everything. So he moved his family to Mena Arkansas where his parents lived. While living in Mena her mother was in a buggy accident that left her seriously injured. Sadly she later died during surgery. At the time Imogene was 5, Virginia was 3, and Doug was 1.
Alonza and his 3 children later moved to Meade Kansas where he met and married Mae Cope Dumont. Virginia was blessed with another sister Gertrude after the whole family settled in Friona Texas. She attended school there, and played basketball and tennis. She loved school and excelled in music and singing alto in choirs and plays.
Virginia met Russell Loflin in high school and they were married in 1935. Their family grew to five children- Marilyn, Jim, D’Ann, John and Ron. They lived in Baca County starting in 1940 and always believed God was good to them. Virginia’s independence and drive began at the age of 3 and continued until the age of 98.
