In Syracuse, Kansas, on Novemeber 29, 1949, Gene Deverle Gold came to bless the lives of his parents Gene & Marvina Gold. The family moved to California when Deverle was 5 months old. They spent 12 years there where Deverle attended Christian school for 8 years. It was in this school where he was introduced the basic threads of his character; honesty, integrity, and discipline. Deverle enjoyed giving his parents plenty of challenges with his hard headed personality. There were times when he was asked to share and say he was sorry that came as hard lessons. After the lessons were learned they stayed with him....with a little encouragement from his mother. Deverle had many happy memories from California including baseball where he was the pitcher. He continued his pitching in Colorado when the family moved back the first of April, 1962. Deverle joined the seventh grade classroom when he returned. He also became a member of 4-H and learned gardening, leather craft, beef breeding, and veterinary science. This opportunity would later lead him to farming as his career choice. He loved the farm and chose never to live in the city again. He always said he felt sorry for the kids that had to live in town. In Springfield he made many life-long friends and graduated from Springfield High School in 1968. He then went on to attend Lamar Community College where he received his Associates degree in Diesel and Automotvie Mechanics. Deverle had a successful farming business with his father. Gene made sure that he had a good start with the property that would give him the chance to live the life that he loved. Gene wanted to give him the confidence to be his own man and to make his own decisions. One of Deverle's greatest concerns was that his parents were well repaid and taken care of. Deverle was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed times that he spent with his "hunting family" in , and around his property, hunting many different prizes. Part of the fun was the butchering, processing, making jerky and filling the freezers with fresh meat. Although Deverle didn't have any children of his own he adopted a family of friends. He was always kind and gentle with all people. He had a soft spot for children and he shared his love for the outdoors with them. Many had their first hunting or fishing experience with Deverle close by. Deverle is survived by his father and mother, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends both young and old.
