Helen Agnes Wood was born in Thalia, Texas, October 4, l917 and passed from this life on September 3, 2014 in Walsh, Colorado, at the Walsh Healthcare Center. She was 96 years of age. Her parents were Shelby Wood and Emily Bayer Wood. Agnes married Winston Pollard on December 12, 1936 in Tahoka, TX and to this union four children were born; Barbara, Donald, Kathryn and Linda. They lived on the family farm south of Brownfield, Texas and raised cotton for ten years. In 1946 they moved their family to Springfield, Colorado, where they remained for the entirety of their lives. Agnes was a longtime member of The Order of Eastern Star and enjoyed many years of good fellowship with the organization and friendship through their Past Matrons’ Club. Another activity that Agnes enjoyed was bowling. She traveled to many National Competitions with other women from Baca County. She liked to travel and took several trips after she was widowed in l997. Agnes loved to play cards and spent many hours at the senior center playing pinochle and other games. She also loved to read and had a great appreciation of the Springfield Library. Few people can equal the number of sporting events attended by Agnes. She was an avid follower of the Springfield Longhorns from the time her son played sports to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren until the last two years when she was unable to make the trips. She also enjoyed many trips to Brighton, Colorado, to watch great-grandson Colby play baseball. She was also a Braves fan from early on. Agnes was preceded in death by her husband Winston, her mother and father, her brother Cliff Wood and her beloved son Donnie. She is survived by three daughters and their children and grandchildren and one great-great grandson. Barbara (Sid) Henderson of Rye and their daughters Shelley Adams of Pueblo West and daughter Jessica Adams of New York City; Sherri Jones of Lakewood and daughter Rhea Blasdel and son Michael of Escondido, CA; Patricia Eberhart and son James of Pueblo West. Kathy (Lonnie) Arbuthnot of Boerne, TX and daughter Joey (Derek) Smith of Brighton and their children Colby, Taylor and Tristan. Linda Hutches of Springfield and her daughter Debbie (Kiyoshi) Kuriowa of Japan and sons Issei and Koji; son Doug Hutches of Springfield and sons Bo, Todd, Rafe, and Luke; Guy (Patty) Hutches of Rock Hill, SC and sons Matt, Jason, and Colton. Graveside services will be held on September 6, 2014 at 4:00PM and interment at Springfield Cemetery.
