John (Jack) Perry Nutt was born on June 18, 1932, in his home north of Two Buttes to parents Beulah and Lincoln Nutt. He was welcomed by older sisters Elizabeth (Betty) and twins Virginia and Norma. His grandmother, Dora Nutt, lived in the family home and was a special person in Jack’s life. He lived on the farm and attended school at Two Buttes. He enjoyed the animals on the farm and played basketball in school and was said to be a good player. Jack graduated in 1950 from Two Buttes High School with his only other classmate, Steve Benson, and they have been friends throughout their lives.
Jack enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1950 and was assigned to a radar sight in Alaska. He was stationed where he could see across the Bering Strait and took a “Polar” dip off the coast. He gave his country four years and came home to help his parents with the farming. In 1975, he met and married Kathryn, who brought with her two daughters, Mary Ann (age 12) and Kristi (age 6) and a son David (age 11). They all enjoyed the farm and attending to the many animals that lived on the farm. In 1979 Jack and Kathy were blessed with another daughter, Sarah Elizabeth, born on June 30.
Jack and Kathy lived on the farm until a few years ago when they moved to Springfield, and Sarah moved home with her family to the farm. Jack worked for 35 years for insurance companies as a crop adjuster as well as raising cattle and a few pigs on the family farm.
Jack was a good farmer, husband, and dad and was always available if anyone needed help with cattle or farming.
This year, Jack became ill and was unable to stay at home. He resided in the Southeast Colorado Long-Term Care Facility until July 16 when the time came for him to go home with the Lord. He is survived by his wife Kathryn, daughters Mary Ann Moore, Kristi Thronburg (Wade), and Sarah Steinman (David) and son David Dickson (Kat) a sister Virginia Erikson of California and numerous nieces and nephews in California. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Norma Bohannon and Elizabeth Nutt.
He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends.
