Valena Velora was born on a farm near Woodbine, Kansas, on March 10, 1918 to Edward and Ida Vahsholtz. She was 1 of 6 children. Velora, as she preferred to be called, left home as a young woman and moved to Wichita, Kansas. She was employed at Cessna Aircraft Company, where she was involved with the construction of Cessna’s famous wooden wing aircraft dubbed the “Bamboo Bomber” built in the early 1940’s for light personnel transport during WWII. While working at Cessna Velora met Glenn “Bob” Drosselmeyer, who worked at the nearby Boeing factory. In 1943 Bob enlisted in the Army. He returned after a two year stint. On July 8, 1945 Velora and Bob were married in the Lutheran Church in Wichita, Kansas. They were blessed with one son, Ron, in September of 1947. Bob returned to work at Boeing, but his heart was in farming. He became a “suite-case farmer” for several years. He kept going west until he found affordable land. In 1948 Drosselmeyers became permanent residents of Two Buttes, Colorado. Bob and Velora worked the family farm together, and so did Ron once he was old enough. It was told by Velora that when Ron was a small boy he would put his head down on the tractor wheel and say, “I just can’t do this anymore!” Velora would always say, “Come on Ronnie, just one more round.” Ron would say, “Well, just ONE more round Mom.” And Velora would say, “Just one more round!” Velora was a 50 year member of the Two Buttes United Methodist Church as well as the U.W.M., and was the church musician most of that time. She always enjoyed the Wednesday lunch and quilting time with the U.W.M. ladies. Velora was also a 50 year member of the Two Buttes Rebekah Lodge 26. She was a very active member and always enjoyed going to the Lodge. Velora passed from this life in the early morning hours of January 5th, 2013, at Southeast Colorado Hospital in Springfield.
