Doran Ray Rodgers was born in Lamar, Colorado January 8, 1954 to Virgil and Nadine Rodgers. He was raised on the family farm in Campo Colorado and attended Campo elementary, junior high and high school.
Ray was active in baseball and basketball in High School. Ray was also an avid hunter and fisherman . But Ray’s passion was hunting and collecting arrowheads.
In the summers following school, Ray traveled to South Dakota and various other places and worked as a custom harvester.
Ray Rodgers of Campo, Co and Pamela Moore of Springfield, CO married April 21,1974, and to that union was born one beautiful daughter, Tori Ann. They later divorced in 1977.
Ray moved to Denver to work with his brother Gary in roofing and construction. While living in Denver, Ray met Dianne Abel. In February 1980 Ray left Denver and moved to Moscow, KS. to take a position with Ross Teeter in his farming business. A short time after securing a job and a house in Kansas in March of 1980, Ray called his Mother and asked her to drive to Denver and bring Dianne to Kansas. Ray wanted to spend the rest of his life with her and her daughter. So with an impish smile and a phone call, he contacted Dianne and said pack your bags, Mom is on her way to pick you an Becky up. Dianne packed her belongings and brought her beautiful daughter Becky to Kansas to live with Ray and to make Kansas their home.
In March of 1980 Ray, Dianne and Becky made their home in Moscow, Kansas. Shortly thereafter their son Jeremiah and daughter Mariah were born. Ray and Dianne were married March 21, 1991. Their home was filled with friends and neighbors, especially weekends when everyone came for the Rodgers BBQ. Ray worked 23 yrs for Ross Teeter of Moscow, Kansas before he died of cancer in August of 2001.
After Ross's death, Ray and Dianne decided to move back to Springfield, CO where Ray's Mother and Father lived. Ray was an entrepreneur like his father, and started his business, R & R Services, a general construction and home repair business.
In September 2011, Ray's health began to decline. First his heart then cancer. He spent the last three months with his wife Dianne, sister Andrea and brother-in-law Tim at their Colorado Springs home. Rays kids visited every weekend and assisted with whatever needed to be done. Ray loved his family, friends and neighbors he was very close with them and many visited while he was staying in Colorado Springs. He fought a valiant fight but the Lord called him home Saturday May 19, 2012.
Family and friends took special time with Ray to express how very much he was loved and cherished by each, but Ray was ready to go to his eternal home in heaven to see loved ones that he longed for and be in the arms of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior-Godspeed Baby Bunt, God speed, you are loved and will be missed. Until we meet up yonder.
All our love, your family and friends.
