Florence Easter Herndon

Florence Easter Herndon, 88, of Pritchett, Colorado passed away May 16, 2012, surround by her three daughters, at Southeast Colorado Hospital in Springfield, Colorado. She was born April 21, 1924 in Rolla, Kansas to John and Susie Klein. Florence grew up in Liberal, Kansas and graduated from High School there. She worked in a bank before marrying Baker Herndon. Baker and Florence were married October 9, 1943 for sixty three years until Baker’s death in 2007. They moved to a farm southwest of Pritchett in May of 1951 and raised their four children Mack, Sharon, Karen, and Stella. Florence helped on the farm and worked at the Pritchett School as a bookkeeper for ten years. She was a devoted mother and wife. Her family loved her delicious homemade pies and homemade bread. Along with the everyday chores of a farm wife she enjoyed sewing the “three of a kind dresses” for her three daughters. Florence always had a great sense of humor and enjoyed listening to her children’s’ stories. Her laughter continued even during the hardest part of her life. The greatest joy in her life was her family. She started a new life in 2009 by becoming a resident of the Springfield Alzheimers Unit for 3 years. She was blessed to have wonderful care from the staff. This devoted cared was greatly appreciated from the family and they would like to thank all the SECH employees. Florence was preceded in death by her parents; John and Susie Klein; husband Baker Herndon; son, Mack Herndon; sister, Florene McAhren; brothers, Otto and Mack Greenwood. Florence is survived by her daughters, Sharon (Ross) Corman, Dalton, NE., Karen (Rick) DeWitt, Mooreland, OK, Stella (Larry) Porter, Springfield, CO, and daughter in-law Alicia Herndon, Springfield, CO. Grandchildren: J.B. Herndon, Lynn Laten, Sara Brennemann, Erin Case, Brian DeWitt, Lane Porter, and step grandchildren Shana Ward, Shelley Bryant and Prina Fitzgerald. Great Grandchildren: Jylian, Dallas, and Landen Laten, Gary and Lila Brennemann, and Emma Case. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Florence E.
