Jeraldine “Jerry” Schnaufer passed into eternal life on February 25, 2012 at Southeast Colorado Hospital in Springfield, Colorado. Born in Vilas, Colorado to parents Samuel and LaVonn Gordon, she was a long resident of Baca County.
Jerry was born in a small farm house just south of Vilas, Colorado. She attended Vilas School until her senior year when she transferred to and graduated from Springfield High School. She spent a year in business school at Denver University before returning to Baca County.
On January 17, 1945 Jerry married Earl Hugh Schnaufer in Clayton, New Mexico. To this loving union two sons were born: Gordon Hugh Schnaufer born January 14, 1946 and Michael Charles Schnaufer born July 29, 1948. They were Jerry’s pride and joy!
Earl, Jerry, and family lived and worked on the family ranch that was homesteaded by his father in the early 1900’s. Her many duties included preparing meals for over thirty men, serving up to three shifts per meal, helping with the cattle, caring for her children and actively participating in school and extracurricular activities.
Preceding her in death were her parents, sisters Sarah [Victor] Schnaufer and Paula [Jesse] Deen, her son Gordon, and grandson Benjamin.
She is survived by son Michael and his wife Dona of Campo, grandsons Ryan Schnaufer of Campo, and Brandon Johnson who resides in New Mexico. She also leaves to mourn her passing nieces Lela Schnaufer of Colorado Springs and Leslie [Dana] Bell of Wellington, Texas, nephews Philip Schnaufer of Vilas, Dennis [Deva] Deen of Green Valley, Arizona and Rick [Cecelia] Deen of Springfield and their families. Jerry’s many friends will miss her as well.
Having confessed her faith in the death and resurrecting power of Jesus Christ, Jerry joyfully entered her heavenly home on Saturday, February 25, 2012. She will be dearly missed by her family and many friends.

“Benjamin Schnaufer Memorial Fund” established to assist children with disabilities and medical issues.

Interment was in the Mount Caramel Cemetery in Campo Colorado.
