Nelda Nadine Rodgers, 83, of Springfield, CO went home to be with the Lord on January 29, 2012. She was residing at South East Colorado Hospital Alzheimer’s unit. Nadine was born in Mesa, CO and was the only living child of Ola Clara Belle Kimbro-Nunley and Earl Rufus Nunley. Ola passed after giving birth to Nadine’s sister. Nadine was raised by her grandparents James Claborn Kimbro and Martha Edna Kimbro.
Nadine moved to Campo, CO in early 1940 with her grandparents and finished her education. In 1944 she married Virgil B Rodgers and helped on the farm by cooking for the hired hands, planting and caring for the garden while raising their 6 children, Vida Mae Rodgers, Leon Rodgers, Gary Rodgers, Ray Rodgers, Donetta Rodgers-Prichard and Andrea Rodgers-Wacker. Nadine was an artist at heart she was a proficient seamstress and used her love for making patterns and sewing to provide her service to the community. She was a self taught musician and played the piano by ear. In 1968 she moved to Springfield, CO and continued her sewing career while she worked other odd jobs. She had a love for architectural drawing and planning projects that she would dream of having one day. As her children grew up and moved away she would travel for extended periods of time to Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas and different areas of Colorado to visit them and her grandchildren. Of course they could not wait for her to come and cook her wonderful meals and bake her delicious pies. When she asked if you would like a piece of pie, it wasn’t a normal piece it was a quarter of the pie but no one ever complained.
Nadine was preceded in death by her parents Ola Clara Belle Kimbro-Nunley, Earl Rufus Nunley, infant sister, grandparents James Claborn Kimbro and Martha Edna Kimbro, 2 children Vida Mae Rodgers and Virgil Leon Rodgers and 1 great grandson Aiden James Hutches.
