Doris Helen (Roberson) Rodgers entered this life on March 6th 1928 and went home to join her heavenly father and loved ones on November 6th 2011.Doris was born the 7th child to Cecil and Alvi Roberson in Belcherville, Texas where she attended school and spent all of her life. Her family eventually grew to 10 siblings which led to a tight-nit and very loving family unit.In an early marriage to Vernon Buck Lawler four children were born; Mike, Patsy, Shirley and Sue. In later years the family moved to Springfield Colorado where she raised her children and worked a variety of jobs in town.In 1970 Doris married Virgil Rodgers, father of Vida Mae, Virgil Leon, Gary, Andrea, Donetta and Ray. Virgil and Doris lived the farm life for many years. She enjoyed learning to can fruits and vegetables out of her own well-manicured, massive garden. Doris also loved to crochet and made many afghans for her family. Doris had a strong faith in the Lord and became part of the curch family in Vilas where she and Virgil would often attend service together. Doris and Virgil spent lots of time "checking cows" and "driving pasture"-- something that in later years would be a souce of humor to her grandchildren--they just didn't "get" the fun or the reasoning in those two tasks or the fact that person could survive in a place where you may not see another human for days! Doris did gain a new appreciation for the animals in their care and especially enjoyed helping with the new baby calves. Doris and Virgil spent many years traveling to the coast to fish with family and friends and many years enjoying the annual family reunions in Campo and Nocona, Texas. These tiems meant so much to Doris as it was a time to re-unite with her brothers and sisters and their families. It was also during this time that she developed a special relationship with her new extended family. Many years later Virgil and Doris built a home in Springfield and finally moved to town. They never actually retired but did have a little extra time to spend together. They would often set out on a day trip or for a weekend to the canyons, visiting friends in Raton or just driving around locally enjoying the scenery and most of all each other. In 2007, due to declining health Doris entered the Long Term Care Center in Springfield, It was at this time that she met and enjoyed several new friendships. She and Virgil spent an abundance of time together as Virgil rarely missed a chancce to be there with her. Virgil would often tell her that she had "those big beautiful eyes" and would try to "steal a kiss" and when he would try and "steal another" she would spout back with "Don't push your luck". Their cute little antics made therir bond so special and is often what is thought of when remembering Virgil and Doris. They were the twinkle of each other's eye. Their love for each other was evident and led to 41 years of a happy and meaningful marrieage.Doris departed this life on November 6th 2011, at the Long Term Care Center in Springfield with family by her side. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers; Buster, Ray, Kenneth, Billy Keith and Bobby, Sisters; Nellie and Nona, son Mike Lawler, step-son Virgil Leon and step daughter Vida-Mae Rodgers.
