Lela Fern Tobey was born on September 24, 1927 in the Lone Star Community in Baca County. She departed life at her home in Springfield, Colorado with her family by her side. She was the 5th child of Orville A. and Pauline (Baumburger) Tobey. Her siblings were Louis, Kenneth, Neva, John, Ralph, and Wayne. She moved to Springfield with her family when she started 3rd grade. She finished grade school, junior high and high school in Springfield in 1945. After high school she worked at several different jobs. She lived in Hobart, OK with an aunt and uncle for a year, working as a nursing assistant at the holspital in Hobart. She moved back to Springfield and statred working at different jobs. She met an old high school friend Byron (Barney) Wilson. They dated a sort time and got married in Raton, NM on December 9th 1950. They moved to Walsh and started farming the McAdams family homestead. They were there about four yraes, starved out, and moved back to Springfiled. Barney started working for the Standard Oil bulk agent in 1954. Fern worked many placed in Springfield, the telephone office, city liquor store and the ASCA office until their son Chuck was born in 1960.
She trayed busy with homemaking and helping Barney with the office work for Standard Oil. Throughout the years she did many things as hobbies, she gardened with flower and vegetables; refinished antique funiture, sewed clothing and quilts, knitted, crochet, bowled, did square dancing, couple dancing, fishing and collectables. She spent a lot of time decorating her home with all of the collections that she had acquired thourghout many years. Her family always said that she could smell an antique store 5 miles away.
The last 25 years she got to spend more time with her husband Barney. They both loved to dance and listen to music. They started fishing in many of the lakes in Colorado, New Mexico, and Texas. Both fising and dancing had to stop due to poor health, which made her sad. Another joy in her life was her son, Chuck. She was a really wonderful mother always helping out when needed. She welcomed with open arms her daughter-in-law, Karma and new grandkids, Kanzadie and Boomer Rogers. She always enjoyed them on their visits. She realy enjoyed her great-grandcildren Max and Shady when they would come and visit her. Max would always call her GG for grand grand mother and she loved it. She had a full and wonderful life and was able to have many life long friends that she always cherished and loved. She spent almost all her life in Baca County and loved being here with family and firends.
Lela Fern Wilson is survived by her husband, Byron (Barney) Wilson; son, Chuck Wilson (wife Karma); grandchildren Kanzadie Michelle Rogers (Brice Chenoweth), Hermon Lee Rogers, great-grandchildren, Shayanne and Max. She is also survived by her sister Neva Hull, and various family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents Orville and Pauline Tobey; and her borhters Louis, Oliver, John, Ralph, and Wayne Tobey and their spouses.
